Germany’s Protestant Church has ordered the suspension of a local initiative to distribute condoms featuring quotes from Protestant reformer Martin Luther.
The Protestant Church in Germany’s Rhine region, said in a statement on Friday, that the initiative meant to spread Luther’s teachings 500 years after the Reformation was “fundamentally inappropriate.”
A church in Dusseldorf had been distributing condoms featuring Luther quotes, including “Here I stand, I can do no other.
It quoted other slogans such as “For whores and saints,’’ to young people though in an effort to create awareness of Luther’s teachings.
Klaus Eberl, head of the consistory, said in the statement;
“It would be best if the condoms are destroyed on site so that no more enter circulation,’’
