Punch reported that Manchester United youngsters Matthew Olosunde and Demetri Mitchell will be in the match day squad to face Arsenal on Sunday.
Boss Jose Mourinho hinted he could pick a weaker side as he priorities Europa League success. And the two youngsters could also be on the bench alongside Matty Willock and Scott McTominay who were unused substitutes against West Brom and Swansea last month.
Olosunde, 19, joined the Red Devils from MLS side New York Red Bulls in March last year and has made just four starts for United’s Under-18 side.
The talented young defender is highly regarded amongst the coaching staff at United having played over 30 times for USA’s under-17 squad. Homegrown talent Mitchell, 20, has been nominated for the Reserve Team Player of the Year after an impressive season.
Injuries to Luke Shaw and Ashley Young has handed Mitchell a rare opportunity in the first team squad. The Portuguese boss has one eye on the Europa League after defeating Celta Vigo 1-0 in the first-leg of their semi-final.
Mourinho admitted this week that it was too late for his side to finish in the top four before revealing Arsene Wenger will be happy to see him because of the team he will be putting out.
Wayne Rooney is expected to make a rare start with Marcus Rashford set to be rested. Eric Bailly, Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia are also set to miss out. Midfielder Marouane Fellaini is suspended after his sending off against rivals Manchester City.
