My Response To Omojuwa’s “Buy Nigeria” Brigade And Other Matters” – Mike Ikenwa

First, I appreciate the fact that you at least made your own suggestion on moving the economy of Nigeria to a better and stable state, which after all, is what we all are aiming at and what we all are trying to bring to the government’s attention.

Now, to the main reason I am responding to your somehow ‘time-wasting ‘article which is focusing more on individuals and groups than it’s focusing on the main issue which is ‘which way forward?’
The article began with “Here in Nigeria, we are obsessed with slogans and cosmetic agendas.” Who begins an article aimed at restructuring the mind of its people on how and what to do to make the country a better place for entrepreneurs to soar and strive like that? Hell no! anybody on his or her normal sense who have seen how you have been insulting public figures like our senators and individuals and reads just the first line of that your article will close the tab to rather go swimming in the in the Abadaba lake, knowing too well that you are bent on attacking people who have created more jobs and even given opportunities to Nigerians than most states, if not the country’s government have even done.

Secondly the article contains much irrelevant issues since it’s focusing on individuals like the senator/s who you have been insulting publicly for sometimes now. I’d have used the term ‘exchanging words with’ then I realized that one-on-one, you can’t even go close to the senator/s on a normal day if not that twitter and the ‘impractical’ followers who you have always insulted by telling them to ‘shut up’ and using other harsh and senseless words on gave you the right to even know who the senator/s is/are.

Unlike what your ‘dumb’ mind is telling you, somebody like you is irrelevant in developing the country or even growing the Naira because unlike those people you attack on Twitter, you have never created even a room service job for a single Nigerian talk more of creating industries that not only employ them, but create opportunity for them to grow, have experience and establish themselves.
To the issue of growing the Naira which you ‘tried’ to address, hope you know the story of India, or should I say the new India.

The slogan ‘Make In India’ which is now used by Indian Government and its people including its labs, automobile companies etc was first used by a boy who created a locally made car that can be driven on the road and sail on water and he want the world to know that it was made in India so he used the word ‘Made In India’. Today, the Indian Government has starting using the term to spark a renewed sense of pride in Indian industry by showcasing the potential of design, innovation and sustainability across India’s manufacturing sectors ranging from manufacturing of cars, automobile components, drugs, chemicals, air craft, construction materials, defence and manufacturing, IT & DP, Electronic systems, electrical materials and so many more and today 87% of these things used in India are being manufacture and used in India with the new government support and new policies.
Don’t forget too quickly about how the economy of Japan grew massively when the government intervened in the manufacturing sectors of the country.

Japan achieved sustained growth in per capita income between the 1880s and 1970 through industrialization. Moving along an income growth trajectory through expansion of manufacturing is hardly unique. Indeed Western Europe, Canada, Australia and the United States all attained high levels of income per capita by shifting from agrarian-based production to manufacturing and technologically sophisticated service sector activity.

Yes you spoke about new policies and ease of doing business, but would that be all? The Bank of industry operating in Aba and other states of the Federation, have you asked how easy it is for those shoe and bag makers in Aba to obtain loan from them? Those men producing beads and gold jewelleries in Edo state, how do they get the funding through these banks? We know that creating a state that gives a fair weather for entrepreneurs to operate would be good but then there’s nothing like government funding, support and the country’s authorities seeing it as a way of turning the economy and job creation around than a personal business, even now that the Naira is at its worst state as a currency.

In your ‘free-bail’ article you continued mentioning ‘assembling of cars’ as if the Innoson management would come to you for assistance on enlightening Nigerians in the difference between manufacturing and assembling of cars. While you were busy ranting and selling your lies and baseless argument about whether Innoson manufacture or assemble those stunning cars that have been spotted even in fronth of the senate house are real or not, I was busy making my findings because I don’t do half research. I got the general sales manager for Innoson, Mr. Kosy Obianusi, who spoke to me about the process, the challenges, the strategies and their latest achievements. To clear the doubts that the cars are assembled, even gave me pictures of the process, from the scratch to the skeleton to the end product (You can read the full interview on bloomgist.com)

Don’t forget that before the emergence of Innoson vehicle Mfg. Co. LTD, they were/are into assembling of cars and motorcycles which through it they phase out tokunbo and foreign motorcycles in almost the entire federation before others started doing same. Nnewi is a home of electronic and electronic parts and are capable of producing any type of electronic material need by individuals or industries. Innoson itself has a plastic manufacturing company in Enugu that manufactures industrial and other forms of plastic parts you see on Innoson vehicles. As small as their firm may seem to be now, they have been able to establish showrooms in over 20 states of the federation and have over 7,200 workers which is made up 96% of Nigerians meaning about 6,700 of their workers are Nigerians. Innoson is selling a car of N2.5 million Naira as against a car equivalent to what Toyota is selling N3.8 million.

Those product you are talking about are the same product Senators buy and use. Prominent men buy them as well, just that I don’t want to mention any name in this article I’d have mentioned over 20 prominent Nigerians I know that wear Aba made shoes/bags cloths, Nigerian made beads and jewelleries, Nigerian made cars and even the recently introduced first Nigerian made original android smart phone which according to CNN Money is almost equivalent to Samsun Galaxy x5 but with its differences.

Promoting and urging Nigerians to patronize the Nigerian made products is only but a step to the big and working strategies and I wonder why someone who says he’s got the betterment of his people at heart and tweeting for the benefits of his people will discourage the same people from buying items produced by their own brothers. Hope you’ve noticed that since the campaign started, not only that Innoson have sold more cars and locally manufactured good being noticed, Innoson have also been invited to the senate house, Sells of Aba shoes have increased and demands are beginning to rise. I know of my Yoruba friend who travels to Aba to buy cloths and materials he uses to work and sell here in Lagos who have travelled 5 times to Aba since 3 weeks as against ones in two weeks trip he makes to Aba before now because of increase indemand even amidst this economic hardship rocking the country.

The senator/s whose image and reputation you are bent on tarnishing and pulling to dust is/are the senator/s that have advocated for the youths and always pledged support for the locally manufactured goods and have created jobs in Nigeria, and when one of them who you are attacking on daily basis was your age he’s already founded one of the leading television stations in the country and in this part of the continent and instead of you to contribute in growing the economy, you are discouraging your few followers who are not even up to 1% of the country’s Population

Well, one thing I have to say to you is that until Nigerians like you, leave sentiment and envy and concentrate on what to do for the country rather than spending your precious time opposing suggestions and attacking public figures and elder statesmen who maybe till you are off this earth, you will never go close to where they’ve been, the country will still suffer hardship and will remain stagnant. Igbos use to say ‘Nwata tulie Nnaya elu, ngwo-ngwo na ngwo-ngwo ayosisie ya anya’
I’ve said my own. USE YOUR HEAD!!!
