CURRENTNEWS: Esu Priest Reacts To Governor Yari's "God Is Punishing Fornicators With Meningitis" Statement; See What He Said

In an interview with PUNCH's FEMI MAKINDE, the Chairman, Osun State Board of Traditional Medicine, Chief Kayode Esuleke, reacted to claims by Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari, that Meningitis is a punishment from God.

He also revealed in the interview that herbal drugs can cure meningitis, HIV and cancer...See excerpts from his interview below;

When asked what is the cause of meningitis?

As herbal practitioners, (we believe) there are certain diseases that have natural and spiritual causes. As herbalists, we believe that meningitis is a spiritual attack. Hence, trying to treat it medically could be a waste of time.

If you want to treat meningitis, which the Yoruba call yinrun-yinrun – that is, a disease that twists one’s neck and kills its victim within a couple of hours – it has to be through natural and spiritual means.

But does God punish people with meningitis because they have committed fornication?

God cannot be so daft. If you fornicate, that is your problem. Does it mean that the people in the northern states who were worst hit by meningitis committed the sin of fornication more than those in the South?

I take Stout everyday but in the Quran it is said that anybody who takes just a spoonful of alcoholic drink will be punished for 21 days and I take like four bottles. Tell me how many spoons one can find in four bottles? That means the punishment for four bottles will be four years.

God has no time for such rubbish. If you drink, get intoxicated and injure yourself, it is not God’s business. It is your problem.

What do you think can be done to stop the outbreak of meningitis?

Thank God somebody said the present vaccine is not effective against Type C meningitis that is in town now.

Let them consult us at the Board of Traditional Medicine. Government should bring anybody suffering from the disease and you will see wonders instead of saying God is the one punishing us with meningitis.

Immediately you suspect that you have symptoms of meningitis, please consult us, at least for the first time it will be free of charge.

What do you think should be done to prevent diseases like meningitis?

We must ensure that our environment is clean and highly ventilated. Cleanliness is one of the best ways to prevent it. Cleanliness is the best medicine.

We have to consult (the oracle) to know the cause of the problem. If a person is treated without prior consultation (with the oracle), he is killing himself gradually. But when the person knows the cause of his problem, it will be easy to treat it. If headache was as a result of inadequate sleep, it will be revealed and one will know what to do to cure it and even prevent future occurrence.

In view of this, I have always said it that herbal practitioners can cure any disease. I have gone to Osun State House of Assembly to defend the cure for HIV. I told them to give me a patient which they did. I treated the person and he was totally cured. I am not claiming what I cannot do.
