The Red Devils have released legendary Swedish striker, with the 35-year-old recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.
The Red Devils decided against extending the Swedish striker’s contract, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury in United’s Europa League quarter-final win over Anderlecht in Aprl which effectively ended his season.
United had the option to extend the 35-year-old’s contract by an extra year, although the knee injury, which forced him to miss the Europa League final win over former club Ajax, has ultimately made up the club’s mind.
Despite having undergone successful surgery, it is expected to take months before Ibrahimovic will be in a position to return to action.
Mourinho has subsequently decided against waiting for the veteran attacker to recover, with the club looking for a replacement in the summer transfer window.
