A detective attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Musa Sunday, was on Friday, found dead in a shallow grave at Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos after being previously declared missing.
The officer and four of his colleagues were illegally drafted by their Administrative Officer to guard a piece of land that was under dispute at Ibeju-Lekki without the knowledge of the officer in charge of SARS (OC) and without proper documentation.
Information Nigeria reports that the officers were attacked by a group of hoodlums while trying to rescue a security guard at the premise. Sunday, a father of four, was thereafter abducted by the hoodlums, while the other officers managed to escape.
His colleagues who escaped the ordeal reported the abduction to Mobile Police Force (Mopol) 49, Epe, but nothing was done about it. Akodo Police station also refused to come to the aid of their colleague with the DPO insisting she cannot send her men to the area as the area is notoriously volatile.
The report of the missing detective was subsequently brought before the Lagos state commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni who ordered that those who assigned them on the Illegal duty be brought to book.
Sunday’s corpse was later found through efforts of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) operatives who tracked his mobile phone. Over five people have been arrested in relation to the case.
Findings indicate that Sunday was starved and tortured for five days. His abductors then took him to the Baale of the area when his men didn’t come back for him after the fifth day, upon which the traditional ruler directed them to bury him alive.
The suspects so far arrested Include; The traditional ruler of the area who was referred to simply as Baale and one Mr. Arokin who partook in the actual burying alive and who is second in command to a certain Mr. Balogun who himself is at large.
The officer’s rifle along with some of his possessions have been recovered from the suspects.

ReplyDeleteThat is one thing with Nigerian security men, most of them are after sharp sharp money........ Why would the administrative officer illegally ask his colleague to guard s piece of land without the knowledge of the officer in charge of SARS (OC) and without proper documentation, I guess they listened to him because of what they will gain thereafter..... *Selfish interest....*.
