The Gunners, who have won the competition four times in the past, went behind thanks to a deflected Franco Cervi goal. Theo Walcott netted a brace to give Arsene Wenger’s men the lead for the first time in the game.
However, the half finished 2-2, after Eduardo Salvio beat David Ospina with the aid of another deflection.
After the break, Lisandro Lopez turned Walcott’s cross into the back of his own net, before Olivier Giroud got on the scoresheet with a fine volley.
Giroud then teed up Alex Iwobi for the fifth.
Arsenal now top with 8points – 3 points for the win and 5 points for goals scored. Sevilla, who beat RB Leipzig 1-0 in the opening match, are second with four points.
