On Wednesday, Steven Pratt, 47, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, admitting his role in his mother's beating death, police say.
A statement from prosecutors obtained by PEOPLE confirms Pratt, an Atlantic City resident who lived with his mother, repeatedly struck his mother Gwendolyn Pratt in the head the morning of Oct. 12, 2014. Police responded to the Pratt home that morning and found Gwendolyn's lifeless body inside.
The statement says officers immediately took Pratt into custody and an autopsy later revealed the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Pratt faces 25 more years behind bars when he is sentenced within the next few months, police say.

Shock As Reverend Father Batters 70-year-old Man In Anambra For Allegedly Charming Him
On Friday, Worshippers at St Dominic’s Catholic Church, Adazi Enu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State were shocked when a US-based Catholic priest, Rev. Father Mike Steve Ezeatu, descended on a 70-year-old man and beat him blue black.
Parishioners told Southern City News that the priest had finished celebrating a funeral mass and was about entering his SUV when he sighted the old man identified as Innocent Nwolisa and beckoned on him to come closer.
Obeying the call, Nwolisa approached the cleric, who descended on him, accusing the old man of charming him while he was celebrating mass on the pulpit.
Narrating the story, the first son of the victim, Ebuka Nwolisa, said his father was about to leave the compound of Ifedigbo in Ugweni Ojii, where the funeral mass of one late Ifeoma Ifedigbo, had just been celebrated by Ezeatu, when he was called back by the priest
Another eyewitness, Mr. Arinze Ezeatu, who is a younger brother of the priest said, “Father Mike complained that the old man was releasing evil powers on him while he was at the altar celebrating the mass, and that was the reason for his action.
Arinze and Olisa Ezeatu, both younger and elder brothers of the priest, maintained that it was not true that Nwolisa was releasing evil powers on him, but that the reverend father was suspecting that the old man may have supported his brothers, whom the priest has for long been at loggerheads with over land.
According to them,

When Southern City News contacted Mr. Abuchi Onwumelu, the Press Secretary to the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev, Paulinus Ezeokafor, he (Onwumelu) declined comment.

An Open Letter From A Fifteen Year Old To Senator Ben Murray-Bruce
Your Excellency, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce,
I write to you this letter with all sense of humility and with deep respect for you, but it is sad for it not written to commend you of your good works, rather, it is to point out errors with hopes that the sun will shine again someday.
You are a business man, and like all business men, no matter the amount or worth of assets they have, it is never enough, and that's why I cant seem to get past seeing all your moves and Showoff's via social media as part of a political agenda. I may be fifteen(15) but I'm not a fool.
How else would you explain all the things you do and the reasons for which you do them? I'm certain even Mr. Onyeka Nwelue would agree with me on this one.
You are rich and we know it, you even said yourself that you didn't use government funds to purchase the cars you bought from Innoson's, makes me wonder what you use the funds for, considering the mouth gaping amount The Mekunas and The Mekunus make annually, I'd say earn but, it's not earned. Im sure The Youths you so much care and solicit for would like to know.
I believe your actions are of mockery and not of good deeds, it's like having a "starving community" and you offered them one(1) De rica of rice. What you've done is not an act of good, neither is it an act to spark the humanitarian fire in the hearts of your kind. What you've given to this starving community is something to fight and kill for, considering the fact that you and your kind buy rice in bags and in large quantities too and not per Derica.
To those who don't know, "De rica" is a tin derived from the after use of a tomato paste with brand name De rica, it is also the standard measurement used to purchase grains by the common people(The masses).

You talked about seeing anger in youths, Oh hear me, when I say, the youths are not angry oh, the word in that context isn't anger, for if they were angry, we would know. Also hear me when I say that, the anger and wrath of our youths should be the last thing anyone looks for, else it is found and it is catastrophic. The aristocrats would suffer more! The world right now needs no revolution, the stories of the French revolution and many others still touches me till today. I may be young but, I know the things that needs to be known.

I don't blame y'all though, when campaign managers be printing fliers and speeches for y'all.
As an athlete, I learnt that one will never grow if he keeps working on a skill he's already good at during practice. Working on those difficult moves, that's what makes him better!
The funds seized by the EFCC, what do they do with them? So much mouth opening figures all the time yet we still owe international debts thanks to y'all salaries.
Dollar rates be rising, who's suffering? Nigerians be wondering, why? I say it's because our leaders deal with U.S. dollars and not Zambian Kwacha or Iranian Riyal, if they did, those currencies would rapidly grow too for easy laundering. They call us thieves and criminals but they do the corporate stealing. That cyber criminal out there, how much did he get? Compared to the amounts recovered from our representative icons? Note. I'm not saying I'm in support of cyber crimes, just trying to buttress a point.
We have almost zero reliable working infrastructures because if it isn't oil, it's not worth doing. Zero humanitarian programs, except turn us into car washers thanks to Poverty Alleviation Schemes, or farmers, civil "SERVANTS" and other petty nonsense in the name of helping.
They send their blockhead called kids overseas to school, they end up being the one's tarnishing hard built legacy and reputations of the poor serious ones who knew just how crucial it was to his family and country that he attains a college degree. Y'all kids end up being party starters and money spenders due to unfathomable wealth, who while their country is in Chaos, would spray US dollars at parties or clubs IN THE USA!
Your Excellency Sir, I urge you to please flee from deceit for your actions are not portraying The Man Of Hope you set out to be.
I haven't heard of a single act of Kindness you've shown, but you've never failed to upgrade the toys at Silverbird Galleria, and have your kind of people and their kids come spend in it. A win win situation for you.

17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

MESSAGE:
The Bible repeatedly warns children of God to beware of deceivers in the form of false teachers and prophets, because their operations are usually so smooth that their activities could be very difficult to pin down as errors. They present their messages as divine revelations received after much perseverance in prayers and rigorous Bible study. Deceivers present their deadly errors as newly discovered secret information that was specially revealed by God, as the preferred way of relating with Him in this generation. 2 Timothy 4:5 says:
It is an established fact that keeping the faith protected from the corruption of deceivers, requires the presence of the Holy Spirit, a knowledge of the Scripture, holiness, perseverance, Christian fellowship and spiritual maturity. This attributes must be present in a person’s life before the instruction in 2 Timothy 4:5 can be effectively carried out. The first essential step is to watch in all things. To watch, in this sense, is to pay close attention to the beliefs and practices of the Church, to ensure that they are ever in strict compliance with the Word of God. By so doing, even the slightest variation would be quickly noticed and corrected. Also, young believers will be protected from error. The second essential step is to do the work of an evangelist by demonstrating the full evidence of the ministry. If indeed the present generation of Christians would preach the gospel of Jesus Christ with power, such that miracle, signs, and wonders, are evident in our fellowships meetings, then the door shall be permanently shut against false prophets. Furthermore, 2 Timothy 3:16 says:
This passage boldly declares that everything documented in the Bible is given by God as a revelation of Himself, His commandments and teachings. The Bible repeatedly warns children of God to beware of deceivers in the form of false teachers and prophets, because their operations are usually so smooth that their activities could be very difficult to pin down as errors. They present their messages as divine revelations received after much perseverance in prayers and rigorous Bible study. Deceivers present their deadly errors as newly discovered secret information that was specially revealed by God, as the preferred way of relating with Him in this generation. 2 Timothy 4:5 says:
“But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”
It is an established fact that keeping the faith protected from the corruption of deceivers, requires the presence of the Holy Spirit, a knowledge of the Scripture, holiness, perseverance, Christian fellowship and spiritual maturity. This attributes must be present in a person’s life before the instruction in 2 Timothy 4:5 can be effectively carried out. The first essential step is to watch in all things. To watch, in this sense, is to pay close attention to the beliefs and practices of the Church, to ensure that they are ever in strict compliance with the Word of God. By so doing, even the slightest variation would be quickly noticed and corrected. Also, young believers will be protected from error. The second essential step is to do the work of an evangelist by demonstrating the full evidence of the ministry. If indeed the present generation of Christians would preach the gospel of Jesus Christ with power, such that miracle, signs, and wonders, are evident in our fellowships meetings, then the door shall be permanently shut against false prophets. Furthermore, 2 Timothy 3:16 says:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

This Lady Was Found Dead In Her Room After Valentine's Day
A 24-year-old hair dresser was found dead inside her apartment, after celebrating Valentine's Day. The young lady, identified only as Nanchim, was found dead in her room in Nassarawa Gwong area of Jos North local government of Plateau State.
The deceased, who is also a student of the University of Jos, was found dead in her room on Monday, February, 15. The Plateau State Police command spokesperson, DSP Emmanuel Abuh who confirmed the incident said one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The deceased’s aunt, said that the boyfriend has a culture of violence. Nanchim’s corpse has been transferred from Bingham University Teaching Hospital to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for autopsy, witnesses said.

Masked Witnesses Can't Testify Against Nnamdi Kanu, Court Rules
Today, Justice John Tsoho of the federal high court, Abuja, has ruled against the application of the federal government to mask its witnesses in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and director of Radio Biafra. Tsoho held that masking the witnesses would shield their demeanour from the court.
“There is no gain saying that demeanor of witnesses is very crucial in a trial,” he said. He also held that sufficient particulars had not been provided by the prosecution to show that the witnesses were being threatened.
Tsoho stated that the Department of State Services (DSS) had already disclosed the names of its witnesses and addresses, indicating that they reside in Lagos, Enugu and Port Harcourt, away from the locality of Kanu.
“It is not correct therefore to assert that many of the witnesses come from the accused persons location,” he said. However, he ruled that names and addresses of the witnesses would not be made public during the trial. He thereafter adjourn the case to March 7 and 11 for trial. Earlier on Friday, Kanu had opposed the application of the federal government to protect the identities of witnesses in his trial, describing them as masquerades.

Soyinka Tells Buhari To Convene Emergency Economic Conference Now
Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, yesterday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to convene an emergency economic conference for experts to brainstorm on the way forward and future of the economy.
Soyinka who is apparently worried by the continuous decline in the nation’s economy..He made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja.

20 Year Old Man Rapes 14 Year Old Orphan On Val's Day (Pictured)
For allegedly raping a 14-year-old orphan on Valentine Day, one Abdulsalam Olayinka, 20, was on Thursday, remanded in prison by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court. The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told court that the accused who is a trader, went to his friend's house but that the friend was not around.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias ordered that the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri Prison and adjourned the case till February 24 for ruling on the bail application.
"He then called the victim and dragged her to the top of the house and raped her. "The victim, who is an orphan screamed but no one in the house came to her rescue except her aged grandmother who stays with her".

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

Every act of deception is a direct attack against the truth for the purpose of distorting the original creative order and position of things by the Almighty God. Deception is therefore the devil’s invention which has been carefully designed to create doubts and questions about the credibility of God in the hearts of men. This is the reason why deceit is condemned by God as an attempt to deny His sovereignty and the revelation of Himself. After the devil’s successful attack on Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:1-7, God repeatedly warned humanity about the subtlety of Satan and his false prophets. Matthew 24:11 says
The whole of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation is full of similar warnings about the deliberate plot of devil to send his evil agents of deception in form of false prophets and heretic teachers into the world, in order to deceive and mislead many. These deadly agents of deception have perfected the means of attacking unsuspecting individuals from two seemingly harmless fronts. One of their tactics is to preach the gospel of the alternative. They claim to be serving the same God through another saviour, and therefore present their religion as a better alternative to Christianity that only has the appearance of the Christian religion on the surface, but is full of heresy, ungodliness, and immorality in actual practice. To this end 1 Timothy 4:1-2 says
In the above passage, the Word of God is making it very clear to us that the activities of these agents of darkness will become very concentrated and effective in the latter days, such that it will cause some believers to depart from the faith. This will happen because those affected would commit the error of giving heed to seducing spirits. They would be seduced through the preaching of other gospels, the gospel of relativism, modernism and post-modernism, and through attractive motivational messages. To counter the evil, we must turn to 2 Timothy 3:16. God has given us all scripture by His inspiration, to be profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. Dangerous heretic teachings are in the air, but anyone that abides in the Word of God, can never be deceived. Be warned.

Troops Kill 162 Boko Haram Members At Nigeria-Cameroon Border (Graphic Photo)
About 162 members of Boko Haram sect were killed in northern Nigeria, by Cameroonian and Nigerian troops, Cameroonian Communication Minister, Issa Bakary, said on Tuesday.
According to him, the assault against the terrorists in Goshe, near the Cameroonian border, lasted from Thursday to Sunday.
The minister said, four artisanal mine factories, seizing mines, suicide bomber vests, ammunition and other weaponry were destroyed by the allied troops.
Bakary said the troops also set a Boko Haram training centre on fire. "Hundreds of people held hostage by the terrorists were also released. "Cameroon lost two soldiers to land mines in the assault," the minister said.

Shock As 47 Year Old Man Attempts To Rape Daughter And Impregnates Teenage Niece
Femi Kolajolu, 47, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year-old niece and attempting to rape his own daughter last November.
Vanguard gathered that Femi had allegedly been raping his niece since 2013 and threatened her not to inform anyone, including her mother.
Kolajolu who has been detained at the FESTAC Police Division, has however, denied the allegations, calling it false.
The niece, a Junior Secondary School III student of a public school in Lagos, narrated her story. She said;

Despite the accusations by his niece and wife, Kolajolu maintained his innocence. He said he didn't know anything about the pregnancy or rape. He added:

“Last June, I realised I had missed my period but I did not know what caused it. It was after my mum took me to the hospital that we were told I was three-months pregnant.
“I intend to sit for my Junior School Certificate Examination, JSCE, next month. Since my father died last year, my uncle took everything he gave us. My mum was left with nothing to cater for the six of us.”
Femi's wife Ndidi, believes her Husband is guilty of the allegation labeled against him. She said:
“He almost raped our first child last November.” "He came around 3a.m., removed our 14-year-old daughter’s underwear and touched her breast. I woke up when my daughter screamed. We usually do not put off our light at bedtime, but at that moment it was off.
“We all ran to the sitting room to see who came in. As our last child bent, she saw legs behind the curtain. When we removed the curtain, I saw my husband standing naked.
“My daughter cried and rained curses on her father. When I told him I was going to report to the police, he said it will not take him five minutes to kill me.
“In December 2015, he said I and his five children (all girls) should not visit him again because he has another woman who has given him a son. Since last December, I am just seeing my husband today (Tuesday).
Despite the accusations by his niece and wife, Kolajolu maintained his innocence. He said he didn't know anything about the pregnancy or rape. He added:
“Even if my wife and I are at loggerheads, this is not the right way to solve it. I have never entered their room. “Why will I sleep with my niece or my own daughter?”

Jimoh reportedly cut off Oloyede’s ears and stabbed him in the neck and eyes during a fight on Monday on Adedoja Street, Mushin.
Residents were said to have stayed away from the duo because they both wielded bottles. Oloyede died on the spot after losing much blood, while his corpse was deposited in a morgue in the state.
Jimoh, who after the incident was taken to a clinic for medical attention due to the injuries he also sustained, was later arrested by policemen from the Alakara division.
It was gathered that the men fought over the claim by the deceased that his friend betrayed him by sleeping with his wife. A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the two men had been friends for a long time.
She said, “Oyeolorun (Jimoh) and Ora (Oloyede) have been friends for a long time now. They were both living on this street before Oyeolorun relocated to Sango, Ogun State, where he is staying with his family.
A community member, Adewale Baloye, said people did not intervene because the duo were notorious for such fights. He said,

Bunmi, however, met her daughter's lifeless body in Samuel’s room when she returned from the market. The suspect was said to have confessed to the family members that he killed the girl for ritual purposes. Confirming the incident. the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department (CID) Akure for further investigation.

Public Health Workers Begins Nationwide Strike
The public health workers have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike beginning on Wednesday over alleged breach of agreements by the Federal Government.
The workers, under the aegis of Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations, had earlier handed the government a 15-day ultimatum with effect from February 3 to accede to their 10-point demands or risk a nationwide strike.
According to the workers, unless government satisfies their demand, they will resume the suspended strike. But the government is yet to satisfy their demand. Today is still there tho.

Naira Devaluation & Falling Oil Prices: A Marshall Plan For Nigeria By Tony Ogunlowo
At the end of the Second World War, with much of Europe in ruins and struggling to cope with the aftermath of six years of conflict, under the Marshall Plan of 1948 America gave $13 billion dollars to Western European countries to help rebuild their countries.
It wasn’t just a major financial package designed to help re-build major infrastructure, factories etc. destroyed during the war but also to make Europe prosperous again, dropping trade barriers using new business procedures, preventing the spread of communism and bringing in new improved working conditions.
Nigeria is in the same predicament right now. Economically in ruins, not by wars or conflict but of years and years of mismanagement which has seen politicians squandering billions and billions of dollars of public funds intended for capital projects.
The current planned National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) which was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2014 aims to raise the country’s stock of infrastructure to at least 70% of GDP by 2043.
All good in theory but where’s the money going to come from considering the implementation of phase one alone will cost at least 165 US billion dollars.
With the current falling oil prices the current government is in trouble; budget obligations may not be fulfilled, austerity measures will have to be introduced, inflation will rise and growth will fall seriously jeopardizing any future large scale projects.
Right now emphasis should not be on short term borrowing to plug the holes in the budget deficit. This will only be a temporary solution to an ongoing problem. Money is needed, not only to make up the shortfall but also for the overhaul of major capital infrastructure such as oil refineries, power stations and Federal roads which are currently crumbling to pieces or falling into neglect due to lack of maintenance and upgrading.
Bringing in cost-cutting measures in an attempt to diversify much needed funds will not work. There are too many needy sectors. The Structural Adjustment Programme, SAP, devised by the Babangida administration is a clear indication that such programmes will not work on a long time basis.
Nobody will give us a ‘Marshall-Plan-style’ grant because its believed we’re rich enough and don’t need handouts.What is needed is a very big loan from a foreign financial institution or country. It will have to be very long term, say 25 to 50 years, at a fixed rate. It will be solely for the capital projects that will benefit the country on the long run.

Whilst foreign lenders are not actually queuing up to lend us money due to our past record of mismanagement and kleptomania, countries like Britain and America, would not hesitate to put a bailout package together if properly sought.
Again reassurances will have to be made that the money lent will go directly to the intended projects and not end up in some kleptomaniac politician’s offshore account. We are all aware of the Obama arms embargo placed on Nigeria previously, under the Leahy Act, due to our dismal human rights record and pilfering. So if they do decide to bail us out they will be watching us like hawks ready to pull the plug if we default.
Oil is plentiful in the world now with more and more countries producing crude oil. Prices will continue to drop as the market stagnates and Nigeria needs to diversify into areas such as agriculture to provide a secondary income to oil. Currently agriculture only accounts for 20.24% of the GDP as of 2014.
IT is another area where Nigeria can earn substantial income. India earns a fortune for being the IT outsourcing country in the world providing crucial IT back-up for firms in America and Europe. If the antics of the ‘Yahoo, Yahoo boys’ are anything to go by we have the raw talent but lack the infrastructure. Thousands of Nigerian students graduate each year in one IT field or another with no outlet or employment for their skills leaving them to turn to mischief e.g 419, scamming etc. A major investment in telecommunications and power stations is needed.
Secondary sources of income generation need to be sought to supplement the income from oil and the necessary infrastructure put in place. All this costs money, not the kind of money currently being earned from oil sales, but a huge capital injection of funds that can only come from a Marshall-Plan-style foreign bailout.
It wasn’t just a major financial package designed to help re-build major infrastructure, factories etc. destroyed during the war but also to make Europe prosperous again, dropping trade barriers using new business procedures, preventing the spread of communism and bringing in new improved working conditions.
Nigeria is in the same predicament right now. Economically in ruins, not by wars or conflict but of years and years of mismanagement which has seen politicians squandering billions and billions of dollars of public funds intended for capital projects.
The current planned National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) which was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2014 aims to raise the country’s stock of infrastructure to at least 70% of GDP by 2043.
All good in theory but where’s the money going to come from considering the implementation of phase one alone will cost at least 165 US billion dollars.
With the current falling oil prices the current government is in trouble; budget obligations may not be fulfilled, austerity measures will have to be introduced, inflation will rise and growth will fall seriously jeopardizing any future large scale projects.
Right now emphasis should not be on short term borrowing to plug the holes in the budget deficit. This will only be a temporary solution to an ongoing problem. Money is needed, not only to make up the shortfall but also for the overhaul of major capital infrastructure such as oil refineries, power stations and Federal roads which are currently crumbling to pieces or falling into neglect due to lack of maintenance and upgrading.
Bringing in cost-cutting measures in an attempt to diversify much needed funds will not work. There are too many needy sectors. The Structural Adjustment Programme, SAP, devised by the Babangida administration is a clear indication that such programmes will not work on a long time basis.
Nobody will give us a ‘Marshall-Plan-style’ grant because its believed we’re rich enough and don’t need handouts.What is needed is a very big loan from a foreign financial institution or country. Man Arrives Court With More 90 Lawyers As His Defense Counsel
The things we ONLY see happening in Nigeria. A Nigerian judge has criticized a lawyer facing criminal charges after he turned up to court in Lagos with a defense team of more than 90 people.
Justice Aishat Opesanwo described the approach as tantamount to "harassment and intimidation", a statement by Nigeria's anti-corruption agency says.
Prominent lawyer Rickey Tarfa is charged with the obstruction of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice. He denies both sets of charges.
Mr Tarfa is accused of blocking the arrest of two suspects wanted in a corruption case by keeping them in his car for nearly six hours on 5 February when they were due to be picked up by the authorities, according to a statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which brought the case.
In the second charge, he is accused of perverting the course of justice by communicating through his personal mobile phone with a judge overseeing a trial between the EFCC and two private companies which he was representing.
Mr Tarfa was granted bail at the hearing and the case has been adjourned until March.

Female Lawyer Who Killed Her Husband Appears In Court Shielding Her Face (Pictured)
Mrs. Yetude Oyediran, the Ibadan lawyer who allegedly killed her husband Lowo at their Ibadan residence on February 2, re-appeared at the Chief Magistrate Court, Iyaganku yesterday February 16. Yetunde arrived the court shielding her face with her veil. The case has also been transferred t6h the state High Court.
Amos Adewale, the police officer investigating the death of Lowo and the involvement of the estranged wife, informed the Chief Magistrate in charge of the case, Mrs. Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani that based on the legal advice from the DPP, the Magistrate court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case. Chief Magistrate Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani adjourned till March 1, 2016. She was later taken back to Agodi prison.
